“Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School” by Deborah Diesen. (Book Review) |

We swim along in another adventure, this time with the younger version of Mr. Fish, as he attends school for the first time! He feels out of place and nervous, so many new things – lockers, classrooms – and so many new people!  In his first class, he has trouble writing his name, then he find difficulty with shapes, and the nail in the coffin for most: math. Blub,  blub, blub. L He worries about not being smart enough, thinks he may never understand the school work, fit in and decides he should forget it and quit!  Is there anyone who can help Mr. Fish feel better about his situation and discover all the fun activities and learning that happen at school? Perhaps his teacher Mrs. Hewitt (who knows he can do it!)!

The illustrations by Dan Hanna are as awesome as usual. I was wondering how Mr. Fish would hold a pencil, now I know! Hilarious. Sucker fish as table legs, signs to join the Swim Team (of course!)..so much humor on every page!

Dolly and I really get a kick out of the Pout Pout series! They are always fun to read, there’s always a perfect repetitive chorus for Dolly  to chime in along with me, plus there is always a great message lined through the stories (the one, about never giving up, giving school a chance and giving it your all).  Some other Pout Pout books Dolly has reviewed are “The Pout Pout Fish”http://diapers-and-daydreams.com/book-review-the-pout-pout-fish-by-deborah-diesen/ and “The Not Very Merry Pout-Pout Fish” http://diapers-and-daydreams.com/the-not-very-merry-pout-pout-fish-by-deborah-diesen/ but there are lots of other great ones in the series you should jump in and swim to get now!
