“Monster Needs Your Vote” by Paul Czajak. (Book Review)
Our favorite Monster is back in action and ready to run for President of the United States! He has his platform down… Longer summers! Dessert for dinner! And, of course, saving the local Public Library too (“To fail on education is a national disgrace” Monster proclaims). This is a great book to read to introduce your children to the basics of politics (ie. you must be 18 years old to vote and 35 years old to run for office) and terminology like “soapbox”, “debate”, “campaign”, “grassroots”. It’s also a terrific way to get them excited about sharing their good ideas and never giving up when you believe in something! Dolly really enjoys this friendly Monster and his other books (check out others in the “Monster & Me” series)! The illustrations by Wendy Grieb are colorful and expressive, full of diversity and portraying all races (even purple & green Monsters) uniting for a cause! The text is full of terrific vocabulary words, rollicking rhyme, and a good message to boot! As a parent I especially love Monster’s poster “reading turns your voice into a roar!”… It sure does!
Dolly and I strongly suggest you cast your ballot for this really great book! Before the next election, gear up your child, get them involved and interested in politics, ask them what they would do if they were President, and hear what they have to say in return!! “Monster Needs Your Vote” definitely has Dolly’s!
