“Betty Goes Bananas in her Pyjamas” by Steve Antony. (Book Review)

It’s late and Mr. Toucan is trying to get Betty the Gorilla to bed. But Betty resists, “NO! I don’t want to go to bed!” (a phrase I am sure no parent has ever heard before)! Betty has too much to do…play all her musical instruments, paint pictures, play with every toy she owns. Betty yawns and rubs her eyes, even conks out for a minute, but she continues to resist her own drowsiness! But at the offer of a bedtime story, Betty hops right into bed and under the covers (the power of books!). Will she ever fall asleep or will the toys in the closet keep calling her name?! This relatable story is filled with loveable characters and a storyline that so many kids will find laugh-out-loud funny. The illustrations are warmly childlike, and look like a mix of colored pencil and crayon. I love the monotone backdrop and Betty’s drowsy eyes popping open (hehe!). To all the “Mr. Toucans” of the parenting world, may your “Betty” go down quickly and easily tonight! (Pick up this book, it may help!)
